UCR School of Medicine ranked No. 5 for Diversity

Did you know that the UC Riverside School of Medicine was ranked No. 5 overall and fourth among public schools for diversity in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 Best Grad School rankings?

Nearly 37% of our students come from underrepresented communities and we have a variety of programs that drive our diversity efforts, including the Health Equity, Social Justice, and Anti-Racism (HESJAR) curriculum thread, the Designated Emphasis in Medical Spanish (HABLAMos) program, the Program in Medical Education (PRIME), which is designed to address the needs of African, Black, and Caribbean communities in the Inland Empire, and our Pathway Programs, which help students, from high school through college, address the distinctive and unique student needs at each step along their educational path toward careers in health and medicine.

“As we celebrate our 10th anniversary this year, it feels great to be nationally recognized as one of the best medical schools for diversity by U.S. News & World Report,” said Deborah Deas, MD, MPH, vice chancellor of health sciences and the Mark and Pam Rubin Dean of the UCR School of Medicine. “We take great pride in our mission to train a diverse physician workforce throughout Inland Southern California.”

Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences: Training the Next Generation of Independent Research Scientists

Offered by the Division of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Medicine at UC Riverside, the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences is an interdisciplinary translational research program that incorporates a medical school curriculum with basic science training. Our Ph.D. students become independent research scientists with skills that allow them to bridge the wide gulfs that exist between clinical medicine and basic science research.

The training leads to a Ph.D. degree for students holding a B.S./B.A. or M.D. degree or students currently in an M.D. program.
